Hi, I'm Emma

I’m Emma Collens, a BACP accredited psychotherapist, EMDR therapist and clinical supervisor based in Twickenham.

I offer counselling, EMDR therapy and supervision for adults both online and in person, and have over 15 years’ experience working across mental health charities, voluntary services, crisis support and private practice.

Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, capable individuals who have spent a long time coping on their own. Therapy offers a space where that weight can be shared, understood and gradually worked through.

My approach to therapy

My work is relational and trauma informed, grounded in psychological theory while always recognising the practical realities of your life and circumstances.

In our work together I pay attention to:

  • patterns in relationship

  • attachment dynamics

  • how the nervous system responds to stress

  • the impact of past experiences on the present

At the same time, therapy is always connected to what is happening in your life right now.

Sessions are collaborative and paced in a way that feels manageable. There is no pressure to share more than you feel ready to.

Lived experience
and understanding

Alongside my professional training, I bring lived experience of chronic illness and neurodivergence.

This shapes how I practise.

I understand the invisible effort it can take simply to get through the day, and how energy, health, and capacity can affect what people are able to manage.

Because of this, therapy with me is:

  • paced with care and flexibility

  • sensitive to capacity and fatigue

  • realistic about the pressures people face

  • respectful of individual needs and boundaries

My aim is to create a space that feels calm, thoughtful and supportive.

What therapy with me may involve

Therapy looks different for each person, but over time many clients find themselves:

  • gaining clarity about emotional patterns

  • understanding how past experiences influence the present

  • responding differently to anxiety or overwhelm

  • developing greater self compassion

  • building stronger boundaries and self trust

The therapeutic relationship itself is an important part of the work, and we build that gradually over time.

Professional
background

Before moving fully into private practice I worked across a range of services supporting vulnerable individuals and those experiencing significant emotional distress.

My experience includes:

  • mental health charities

  • emotional support services

  • residential care settings

  • crisis support work

These roles gave me the privilege of supporting people through many different forms of psychological difficulty and life transition.

I continue to undertake regular professional development to ensure my practice remains informed and responsive to the people I work with.

Ready to get started?

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, but you do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out.
If you feel something in your life is becoming difficult to carry alone, therapy can offer a space to pause, reflect and begin to find a way forward.
